Marvel’s Spidey Swings Past Competition as Summer Box Office Soars
Spider-Man: Brand New Day holds the top spot while four new releases enter the domestic top 10 chart.
Sony and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day continued its dominant theatrical run over the August 7–9 weekend, holding the #1 position on the domestic box office charts with a massive $145.0 million second-weekend haul. The tentpole release pushed its 10-day domestic cumulative total to $655.1 million, anchoring a crowded late-summer marketplace.
Universal Pictures’ The Odyssey held firm in the #2 spot, generating $31.5 million in its ongoing run and raising its domestic total to $461.2 million. The top two positions on the chart remained unchanged from the previous week, driven by strong holdover performance in premium large-format and IMAX screens nationwide.
Four new titles entered the top 10 this frame. Universal’s One Night Only led the slate of new entries, opening at #3 with $5.7 million. Searchlight Pictures’ comedy sequel Super Troopers 3 debuted at #4 with $4.0 million, while Iconic Releasing’s Ice Cream Man (#8, $2.0 million) and Oscilloscope Laboratories’ CatVideoFest 2026 (#10, $568 thousand) rounded out the new domestic wide and platform releases.
The influx of new titles resulted in a uniform two-spot shift downward across major mid-summer holdovers, including Disney’s Toy Story 5 (#5, $3.9 million), Universal’s Minions & Monsters (#6, $3.5 million), and Disney’s live-action Moana (#7, $2.8 million).
