Tom Holland’s latest MCU entry shatters box office records and drives the biggest theater weekend in history.

LOS ANGELES – The box office is experiencing an unprecedented summer blockbuster surge, led by Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which pulled off a staggering $932 million worldwide debut.

Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as the web-slinger shattered expectations to deliver the second-most lucrative global opening weekend in cinema history, trailing only 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Final figures confirmed that Brand New Day established a new benchmark at the North American box office, pulling in $360 million domestically. That figure narrowly edges past Endgame’s previous domestic opening record of $357 million (unadjusted for inflation).

Internationally, the film hauled an astounding $572 million across more than 73,500 screens, anchored by a massive $121 million contribution from China alone.

A Perfect Storm at the Multiplex

The triumph of Brand New Day arrives on the heels of a uniquely robust theatrical landscape. Industry analysts point to a compounding “halo effect” driven by Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey, which slid to second place in its third weekend with a resilient $51 million, pushing its global total past $911 million.

According to tracking data from Rentrak, the combined momentum of Spider-Man and The Odyssey fueled the biggest single weekend in the history of North American movie theaters, with total industry ticket sales crossing an estimated $430 million.

“There’s no better lead-in to this movie than The Odyssey,” said Paul Dergarabedian, head of marketplace trends for Rentrak. “Think of how many people around the world were in movie theaters being exposed to trailers marketing for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”

Breaking Down the Records

Brand New Day immediately rewrote several historical ledger entries:

  • Opening Day Dominance: The film raked in a record-shattering $168 million on Friday alone across U.S. and Canadian theaters, besting Avengers: Endgame’s $157 million single-day benchmark.
  • An Exclusive Club: With Brand New Day joining Endgame, Infinity War, and No Way Home, Tom Holland officially stands as the first actor to star in the four highest-grossing global opening weekends of all time.
  • Demographic Reach: Exit polls via PostTrak revealed a massive turnout among Gen Z and millennial moviegoers, with analytics firm EntTelligence estimating that roughly 24.1 million people went to see the film domestically over the weekend alone.

As word-of-mouth spreads and repeat viewings mount, trade experts project that Brand New Day will comfortably cross the $1 billion threshold globally within its first week, providing a historic exclamation point to the 2026 summer movie season.
